Behind the initiative is Kvarnholmen Utveckling AB, owned by Peab and JM. The company has signed a 20-year lease agreement with the German hotel operator 1912 Hotels, which will run the hotel under IHG’s lifestyle brand Hotel Indigo. This is stated in a press release.

The hotel will have 232 rooms across a total of 11,000 square metres and will offer a restaurant, spa, conference areas and a rooftop terrace with a pool. It will be located by the water at Kvarnholmen, with views over the approach to Stockholm.

For IHG, the project marks the first Swedish establishment of Hotel Indigo.

“We are pleased to bring Hotel Indigo to Stockholm with our first signing in Sweden for the brand. Kvarnholmen is an area with strong character, where industrial history meets modern Scandinavian design,” says Miguel Martins, head of development for northern Europe at IHG Hotels & Resorts.

The hotel operator 1912 Hotels also sees the project as an important part of its Nordic expansion.

“The combination of an exceptional waterfront location, strong local identity and the globally recognised Hotel Indigo brand creates a unique opportunity to develop one of Stockholm’s most distinctive lifestyle destinations,” says chief executive Audun Lekve.

The architecture and hotel concept are being developed by Tobias Hindersson at Urban Responsibility AB.

Construction is planned to begin in 2027, and the hotel is expected to be completed two years later.
