Marriott strengthens luxury portfolio
Construction has now started for the company's first Ritz-Carlton hotel in Savannah, USA.
The project is being developed by TMGOC Ventures and marks a new addition to a city described as one of the American South's most historically charged destinations. This is reported by Hotel Dive.
The design is led by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, with the ambition to combine the city's heritage with a modern hotel experience.
The initiative comes at a time when demand for both leisure and business travel to Savannah is increasing, while travellers are increasingly seeking unique hotel environments and experience-based accommodation.
The start of construction aligns with Marriott's strategy to grow within the luxury segment. According to CEO Anthony Capuano, the segment represents an important growth opportunity, not least because more affluent consumers continue to prioritise travel and experiences over goods consumption.
About ten percent of Marriott's global project portfolio is currently within the luxury segment.
In parallel, the company is developing another Ritz-Carlton hotel in Indianapolis, together with, among others, Live Nation.
Marriott is expanding broadly within its luxury portfolio, which, in addition to Ritz-Carlton, also includes brands such as St. Regis Hotels & Resorts, JW Marriott, and Edition. The expansion is taking place through new constructions, conversions, and partnerships.
Recently, the company also announced that Italian Lefay is joining the group via a joint venture - as the first brand with a full focus on luxurious wellness.
