New CEO leaves Sunweb - after just one year

After barely a year in the position, Sunweb Group's CEO Mieke De Schepper is leaving the company.

The announcement comes after a period of leadership changes in the travel group, which is also a major player in the Swedish-Danish market.

Mieke De Schepper took office as recently as April last year. She was recruited when Sunweb was facing a CEO change, after her predecessor Mattijs ten Brink had to leave due to disagreements with the board regarding the company's future direction.

Sunweb Group has its headquarters in the Netherlands and is owned by the Swedish-German investment fund Triton. The group operates in seven European markets: the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, France, the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Germany. Last year, over 1.3 million guests travelled with the company, which had a turnover of just over 1.2 billion euros.

Mieke De Schepper came most recently from the role of Chief Commercial Officer at Trustpilot and has previously held senior positions within both Expedia Group and Amadeus.

In a press release, Sunweb states that Mieke De Schepper has chosen to leave the role of CEO herself.

Until a permanent successor is in place, chairman of the board Lars Löfgren will take over as interim CEO, together with CFO Jeroen de Swart.

Lars Löfgren has a long background in the travel industry and was, among other things, CEO of Thomas Cook Northern Europe - today's Nordic Leisure Travel Group.

- On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Mieke for her efforts and commitment to Sunweb. She leaves the company in a stronger position. We wish her every success in the future, says Lars Löfgren in a comment.
