Viva Cruises is a German cruise line specialising in river cruises in Europe. On 12 November, they will once again be exhibiting at Travel News Market.

What brings you to Travel News Market this year?

- It is a great opportunity to get a feel for what is happening in the Swedish travel market, meet partners we already know and get to know new ones. I am looking forward to exchanging ideas, picking up on new trends and, above all, finding opportunities for future collaborations.

- What is new or particularly exciting about your destination, products or services that buyers should know about?

- Interest in river cruises in Europe has increased significantly in the Nordic countries in recent years. More and more people are discovering that they do not have to travel very far to enjoy fantastic experiences, good food, fascinating history and a rich culture.

- With our modern ships and our Viva All-Inclusive concept, we have really struck a chord with Nordic travellers. We combine comfort and high quality with excellent value for money.

- In 2027, we are taking the next step with our new Viva Boutique concept, offering cruises from Paris and Venice. Here, we are focusing on a more intimate and exclusive experience, with an extra emphasis on quality, local experiences, comfort and personal service.

- For me, Viva Boutique is about offering something out of the ordinary, without it becoming stiff or overly formal. It should be a premium experience where guests can enjoy those little extras while also feeling relaxed and welcome.

What types of buyers are you most interested in meeting at Travel News Market, and why?

- Above all, we want to meet partners who see the potential in river cruises and have noticed how much interest has grown in the Nordic market. We look forward to meeting travel agencies and tour operators that want to offer their customers something out of the ordinary and are looking for a high-quality product that offers excellent value for money.

Why should a travel agency, tour operator or event planner choose to work with you?

- Viva Cruises is still quite a young company, and in 2028 we will actually celebrate ten years. However, we have already become well established in the river cruise sector.

- One of our strengths is that we develop and shape our entire product offering ourselves. This enables us to be quick, flexible and adapt when the market changes. We can also meet our partners’ needs smoothly and efficiently.

- I believe that the combination of independence, innovation and close partnerships is a major part of the reason why we have reached where we are today.

What sets you apart from your competitors?

- We offer all-inclusive river cruises in the premium segment, where both the destinations and the guests’ experience are at the heart of everything we do.

- What truly distinguishes us is that we think about the entire journey, not just the cruise itself. This includes everything from excellent food and flexible dining options to modern ship design and the opportunity to choose from up to three restaurants – at no extra cost.

- Sustainability is also an important part of our work. Overall, I believe we offer a very appealing combination of quality, comfort and value for money.

- What is the most common question or concern you receive from customers at the moment? Has this changed recently?

River cruises are still affected by some old prejudices. It actually reminds me of how ocean cruises were perceived 20 years ago. Some people still think river cruises are rather dull or mainly suited to older travellers, but that is certainly not the case today.

- At Viva Cruises, we would like to help change that perception. Our modern ships, relaxed atmosphere and flexible all-inclusive concept also appeal to a younger audience. For me, travel is about curiosity and the desire to discover new places – and that has nothing to do with age.

- On board, you meet people of different ages and from many different countries, all sharing an interest in travelling and discovering the world.

- In addition, many of Europe’s most exciting cities are located along the rivers. There is so much history, culture, good food and local city life to discover, often just a short walk from where the ship docks.

- That is precisely what I find so special about river cruises. You get to experience several fantastic places while also enjoying the journey itself. And you do not have to unpack and repack your suitcase at every new hotel.

Everyone is talking about AI. How do you use it in your business, and what impact do you think it will have on the travel industry?

- I believe AI will open up many exciting opportunities for the travel industry, both for travellers and for those of us who work in travel.

- At Viva Cruises, we have already launched our own AI Travel Advisor. It helps both customers and travel agencies find the right cruise based on their interests, preferences and budget. It makes it easier to navigate different itineraries and also saves time.

- I believe that AI can primarily help us work smarter, provide faster answers and make travel planning more personal.

- But fundamentally, travel is still about people. The relationships we build with our partners and guests, our experience and our understanding of what people actually want to get out of their holiday are still absolutely crucial. Technology cannot replace that.

- I see AI as a tool to support us in our work, not take it over. If technology can free up more time for customer contact, new partnerships and creating truly great travel experiences, then I believe it will be of great benefit to the entire industry.
