Record order for Alfa Laval - to deliver technology for billion-krona sustainable aviation fuel project

Alfa Laval has secured its largest order ever. The company will deliver technology for biofuel production to Acelen's new biorefinery in Brazil in a deal worth SEK 1.1 billion.

The facility, which is expected to be completed in 2029, will produce more than 17,000 barrels of biofuel per day. The main focus is on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), a feedstock that is becoming increasingly important as aviation seeks to reduce its climate emissions.

Alfa Laval will supply technology for the pre-treatment of feedstocks for the HVO process, including heat exchangers, separators and other process equipment. The refinery will use several different feedstocks, including soya oil, used cooking oil and macaúba - a Brazilian oil plant with great potential for biofuel production.

- New projects within the biofuels sector play an important role in increasing production capacity and strengthening energy security. Alfa Laval is committed to supporting that development by contributing to Acelen's new biorefinery, says Alfa Laval chief executive Tom Erixon in a press statement.

Acelen's investment, said to be worth nearly SEK 30 billion, will strengthen Brazil's position as a producer of sustainable fuels for aviation and heavy transport. The company is owned by Mubadala Capital and is building up an ecosystem for the production of renewable fuels in Brazil.

For the aviation industry, the project is yet another example of how investments in SAF are increasing globally as demand for sustainable aviation fuels is expected to grow in the coming years.

Alfa Laval has 20,300 employees and had turnover of SEK 52.1 billion in 2022. The company is listed on Nasdaq Stockholm.
