SAS CEO takes a seat on Electrolux board
The CEO of SAS, Anko van der Werff, has been elected to the board of Electrolux. The appointment signifies a new clear connection between the airline and the Wallenberg sphere.
SAS has historically had strong ties to the Wallenberg sphere, which has long been a central power factor in Swedish business. The fact that the current SAS CEO is joining the Electrolux board can be seen as another sign of how the networks between large companies continue to thrive.
Investor AB, which is the Wallenbergs' power company, is the largest owner of Electrolux with approximately 17.9 percent of the capital and just over 30 percent of the votes.
“I am very pleased and honoured to be elected to the board of Electrolux Group, a company that - like SAS - Scandinavian Airlines - is characterised by strong Scandinavian values and a proud history,” writes Anko van der Werff in a post on Linkedin.
Anko van der Werff has led SAS through one of the company's most turbulent periods, with restructuring, ownership changes, and a new strategic direction. His experience in transformation and international competition is expected to be valuable in Electrolux's board work.
The appointment also reflects how Swedish industrial companies continue to recruit members with global operational experience.
For SAS, it also means that the company's CEO will have a clearer role in the broader Swedish business network - with connections that have historically been of great importance for both capital and strategy.
