Taxi journey from Gardermoen cost 22,000 kroner

A foreign woman had to pay 22,000 Norwegian kroner for a taxi journey from Oslo Airport Gardermoen to Oslo. The incident was reported to the police, but the investigation was later dropped.

The woman was standing by the airport’s taxi kiosks in July when a driver offered her a lift. When she arrived in Oslo, her card was charged NOK 22,000. This is reported by Dagens Næringsliv.

Avinor, which operates Gardermoen, has confirmed the incident and says that the approach in question breaches the regulations. For several years, the airport has worked to combat overcharging through, among other measures, booking kiosks where travellers can compare options and see the price before choosing a taxi.

The matter was reported to the police shortly after the journey. According to information given to Norway’s DN, the taxi company later stated that the driver had made a mistake and that the money would be refunded. It is unclear whether the refund was made.

The police dropped the case on 19 August, citing insufficient case-handling capacity.

Avinor urges travellers who experience similar situations to contact the police and recommends booking taxis via the airport’s official booking kiosks.
