Scandic establishes itself in Freiburg with a new 219-room hotel

The hotel currently operating in the property will be completely renovated and upgraded to Scandic’s standard. The plan is to open Scandic Freiburg in autumn 2027.

The hotel will have 219 rooms and approximately 480 square metres of meeting space. The investment also includes new restaurant and bar areas, as well as upgraded wellness and fitness facilities. The hotel is located opposite the central station and directly adjacent to the Konzerthaus, Freiburg’s congress and events venue.

Freiburg is a university and business city close to the borders with France and Switzerland, with strong demand from both business and leisure travellers. The establishment gives Scandic a new destination in Germany while strengthening its presence in the German market.

The collaboration with IREMIS is part of Scandic’s strategy to grow selectively in Germany through partnerships with property owners and investors. The focus is on both new developments and developing existing hotel properties in attractive markets.

The hotel will be certified under the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. The renovation includes, among other things, rooms based on Scandic's Room Collection concept, where design and functionality are combined with more sustainable material choices and circular thinking.

Scandic Freiburg is expected to open in autumn 2027.
