Winners and losers in the hotel industry - billion-dollar profits and heavy setbacks

The hotel industry has recovered fairly well after the difficult covid years. But many are still struggling to repay tax deferrals. Our list includes both profit rockets and loss holes.

The 756 Swedish hotels we examine had a turnover of nearly 50 billion kronor in 2024 with a total result (measured as EBIT, i.e., before financial net and tax) of 1.7 billion and had 28,000 employees.

First and largest is the listed Scandic's Swedish subsidiary with a turnover of 6.6 billion and a profit of 319 million.
