Tourist tax could be introduced in Copenhagen – 20 kroner per night

Denmark's government is planning to introduce a tourist tax in Copenhagen and Aarhus. This is reported by the Danish business newspaper Børsen, citing several key government sources and a government memorandum.

If the proposal becomes a reality, visitors will have to pay DKK 20 in tax per overnight stay in the two cities. Cruise ships are also covered by the new tax plans.

The issue of a Danish tourist tax has been discussed politically for several years, but no decision has yet been made. It could now, however, become a reality.

According to news agency Ritzau, the idea is that revenue from the new taxes will help fund several major tax cuts that the Danish government is expected to seek support for during the autumn.
