Finnair: Dramatic decline to the Middle East

The number of passengers fell by 99.1 percent to 200 people after flights to and from Doha and Dubai were cancelled on 28 February due to the heightened security situation.

Capacity to the Middle East decreased almost as sharply (−98.9 percent) and the load factor fell by 11.7 percentage points to 65.4 percent. Freight volume in the region also collapsed, with a decline of 99.9 percent.

In total, Finnair transported 1,015,500 passengers in March, an increase of 10.8 percent compared to the same month in 2025. Growth was strongest in Asia (+38.8 percent) and Europe (+13.3 percent), while domestic traffic increased moderately (+3.8 percent) and traffic across the North Atlantic decreased slightly (−2.2 percent).

Overall, Finnair's capacity increased by 2.3 percent and traffic in revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) rose by 15.7 percent. The load factor improved to 82.4 percent and revenue per available seat kilometre (RASK) increased by 21.4 percent.

Jet fuel prices rose sharply after the conflict in the Middle East. The fuel hedging ratio was 82 percent for the second quarter and 69 percent on average for April-December.
