Finnair: strong demand in Asia and Europe lifts revenues
Finnair increased both passenger numbers and revenues in April, driven by strong growth in traffic to Asia and Europe as well as a higher load factor.
Finnair continued the positive trend during April 2026 with increased passenger volumes, a higher load factor and rising unit revenues. This is stated in a press release.
A total of 1,029,200 passengers travelled with the Finnish airline during the month, an increase of 6.3 per cent compared with April 2025. The rise is partly explained by last year's capacity constraints following industrial action.
Growth was clear in both Asian and European traffic, while North Atlantic traffic declined sharply. Domestic traffic remained stable.
Finnair's capacity, measured in available seat kilometres (ASK), rose by 1.9 per cent compared with the same period last year. At the same time, the company has maintained zero capacity to the Middle East after services were paused at the end of February due to the deteriorating security situation in the region.
In Asia and Europe, capacity increased clearly, partly as a result of more departures to Osaka and Nagoya. In North America, however, capacity fell sharply due to fewer frequencies to Los Angeles and Chicago.
Demand measured in revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) increased by 5.1 per cent, driven by lower market capacity and strong demand in Asia and Europe.
The cabin factor rose by 2.4 percentage points to 78.0 per cent. At the same time, revenue per available seat kilometre (RASK) increased by 14.7 per cent, which the company links to a higher cabin factor and improved yield.
Cargo operations also developed positively. Total cargo volumes rose by 7.6 per cent, mainly driven by growth in Europe and Asia. Revenue-based cargo volume also increased at the same rate.
Punctuality improved during the month - 87.5 per cent of all flights arrived on time, compared with 80.2 per cent last year.
The next traffic report for May will be published on 5 June 2026.
