With an arrival punctuality rate of 89.53 per cent, the airline took first place in both categories - something described as unusual in the industry.

The April result also means that SAS is the world’s most punctual airline for the second month in a row, following its top ranking in March as well.

- This award goes first and foremost to all the teams and employees within SAS who every day contribute to a stable and reliable operation, says chief executive Anko van der Werff in a comment.

According to SAS, the result comes despite continued operational pressure in the aviation industry, with disruptions linked to the situation in the Middle East and other external factors.

SAS highlights improved turnaround processes, more structured daily planning and closer coordination between different departments as key reasons behind the punctuality boost.

Analytics company Cirium describes the double win as unusual.

- Topping both the global and European rankings in the same month is the rarest combination in our monthly OTP data, says Mike Malik.

Over the past two years, SAS has ranked first in Europe on seven occasions and topped the global ranking four times. The result comes as the airline is also celebrating its 80th anniversary.
