Hotell Onyxen becomes Gothenburg’s first World Hotels Crafted

Hotel Onyxen, located near Avenyn, will become the first hotel in Gothenburg within World Hotels Crafted. The partnership will give the hotel access to BWH Hotels’ international distribution and marketing network, while Onyxen retains its own brand and independent profile.

The hotel has been run since 2021 by husband-and-wife team Helene and Pelle Johansson, who are also behind Hagabadet. The business comprises a small number of rooms in a townhouse dating from 1906, with a focus on personal hospitality and local identity.

- We were not looking for a traditional hotel chain, but for a context in which we can continue to be exactly the hotel we are. World Hotels Crafted gives us the opportunity to reach international guests without compromising what makes Onyxen unique, says Helene Johansson.

Onyxen welcomes guests aged twelve and over and positions itself as an adults-only hotel. When booking via the hotel’s own website or BWH Hotels, access to Hagabadet’s wellness clubs is also included.

According to BWH Hotels, Gothenburg’s first World Hotels Crafted member is part of a broader investment in independent and locally rooted hotels.

- What makes Hotel Onyxen so strong is that it has a clear soul. The history, the craftsmanship, the hospitality and the personal touch are all here, says Angelica Montez de Oca, head of performance at BWH Hotels Scandinavia.

At the same time, the owners are planning to expand in Gothenburg. In 2027, a new boutique hotel is set to open in the former police station from 1911 by Långgatorna. That hotel is also planned to join World Hotels Crafted.
