Johan Lundgren proposed as new chair of TUI

TUI’s current chairman, Dieter Zetsche, will step down from his role in connection with the annual general meeting in February next year. The board has unanimously nominated former TUI executive Johan Lundgren as his successor. This was announced in a press release.

Johan Lundgren, 59, has served on TUI’s board since 2025 and has a long career in both the travel and aviation industries.

He became best known during his years as CEO of British low-cost airline EasyJet, where he was group chief executive from 2017 until the end of 2024. Under Lundgren’s leadership, EasyJet developed into one of Europe’s leading low-cost operators, while the company also went through several turbulent years, including the pandemic and a strong recovery in air travel.

Lundgren has also previously held several senior roles within TUI. He was a board member and deputy chairman of TUI Travel, and held equivalent roles at TUI AG. He left the TUI Group in the summer of 2015 following the merger between TUI AG and TUI Travel.

His career in the travel industry began as early as 1986 at Fritidsresor, which is now part of TUI Sweden and TUI Nordic.

The plan is now for him to return to the group’s top position – this time as chairman of the board.

Dieter Zetsche has been a member of TUI’s board since 2018 and chair since May 2019. He has announced that he will not stand for re-election when his current term expires at the annual general meeting in February 2027.

Both the shareholder and employee representatives on the board support Lundgren’s nomination, meaning that he has been proposed to take over the chairmanship from Zetsche.
