Spain tops the summer travel list - strong increase to the Balearics

Spain, Italy, and France top the list as European travellers plan spring and summer trips.

Southern Europe consolidates its position as the first choice for European travellers ahead of the spring and summer season, with a 17 percent increase in demand compared to last year. Spain accounts for 14 percent of travel, followed by Italy (11 percent) and France (8 percent). Greece and Portugal are also attractive, both with 6 percent. This is reported by Majorca Daily Bulletin.

 The Balearics increase significantly

According to figures from Travelgate, bookings to the Balearics have increased by 38.7 percent compared to the same period last year. The increase is also evident week by week.

The archipelago thus remains one of Spain's most sought-after destinations, although Catalonia and Andalusia are currently ahead in booking volume.

Britons drive international demand

In the Spanish market, domestic travellers dominate, but internationally the British are the largest group. They account for just over 23 percent of bookings, followed by Germans.

The booking pattern simultaneously shows a mix of planning and spontaneity: nearly a quarter are booked more than three months in advance, while last-minute trips still make up a significant share.

Shorter trips and tight budgets

According to the European Travel Commission, travel interest in Europe is now the highest since 2020 - but behaviour is changing.

The most common trips are now four to six nights, while longer stays are decreasing. At the same time, the proportion of travellers planning to spend up to 1,000 euros per trip is increasing, while those with higher budgets are becoming fewer.

Safety and price guide choices

Increased costs remain the biggest concern for European travellers, followed by geopolitical uncertainty linked to the Middle East.

Safety has emerged as one of the most important factors when choosing a destination, along with stable climate and attractive offers.
