Total tourism consumption amounted to 504 billion kronor, an increase of 2 percent compared to 2024. This means that tourism has now grown for five consecutive years and is once again above pre-pandemic levels.

Foreign tourists' consumption in Sweden amounted to 142 billion kronor in 2025, an increase of 4 percent. This is the fastest-growing part of the market, even though Swedish visitors still account for the largest share.

Domestic tourism consumption amounted to 363 billion kronor, an increase of 2 percent.

- Domestic tourists still make up the largest part of consumption, but it is the foreign visitors who contribute most to the growth, says Maria Wiberg, statistician at the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth.

The contribution of tourism to Swedish GDP remained at 2.8 percent in 2025 - unchanged compared to 2024, but slightly lower than in 2019 when the share was 2.9 percent.

Sweden continues to have a negative tourism balance. Swedish travellers spend more abroad than foreign visitors spend in Sweden. The deficit amounted to 33 billion kronor in 2025, in line with the previous year.

Tourism employed an average of 155,000 people in 2025, corresponding to 2.8 percent of the labour market. This is lower than the 2019 levels, and the recovery after the pandemic has largely stalled since 2023.

The number of hours worked also decreased to 229 million hours, which corresponds to 2.7 percent of the economy's total hours worked.
