The largest increase is for Cyprus, where sales over the past three weeks are up 76 per cent compared with last year. Thailand is also performing strongly ahead of winter, with sales up 60 per cent. Ving is also reintroducing direct charter flights to Krabi.

Cape Verde is up by 30 per cent, while the largest volume remains in the Canary Islands, where bookings are up 20 per cent.

School holiday trips are also selling quickly. Bookings for the autumn half-term break are up 32 per cent in the past week compared with the same period last year. For Christmas and New Year trips, the increase is 35 per cent.

More than half of Ving's autumn half-term trips have already been sold, and 30 per cent of autumn half-term flights are more than 70 per cent booked. Departures from, among other places, Umeå and Luleå have sold out, prompting Ving to add extra flights to Crete and Turkey.

At the same time, Ving continues to extend the Mediterranean season. Trips to, among other destinations, Cyprus, Crete and Rhodes are now on sale well into November.

- Just a few decades ago, it was unusual to travel to the Mediterranean so late in the year. Today, we are seeing clear demand during both the early and late seasons, says Claes Pellvik, head of communications at Ving.
