SAS continues to expand in SkyTeam - new partnership with Aerolíneas Argentinas

Just one day after the airline announced a new codeshare agreement with Garuda Indonesia, a similar partnership is now being unveiled with Argentina’s national airline, Aerolíneas Argentinas.

"By connecting our networks, we are creating new opportunities for travellers between Scandinavia and South America," says SAS Chief Commercial Officer Paul Verhagen.

The new agreement will give SAS customers easier access to Argentina via Madrid and Rome, while Aerolíneas Argentinas will gain better connections to Scandinavia through SAS’s network in Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo.

SAS will place its SK code on Aerolíneas Argentinas flights between Buenos Aires and Europe, while the Argentine airline will be able to sell tickets on SAS flights from Madrid and Rome to the Scandinavian capitals.

For travellers, the agreement means the possibility of booking the entire journey on a single ticket, checking in once and having baggage transported all the way to the final destination.

- Aerolíneas Argentinas is a natural partner for us. By linking our networks, we are creating new opportunities for travellers between Scandinavia and South America, says SAS chief commercial officer Paul Verhagen.

Part of SAS’s global expansion

The partnership is a further example of how SAS is building up its network following the transition from Star Alliance to SkyTeam.

Since the alliance switch, the airline has gradually launched new partnerships with several SkyTeam members to strengthen its global offering. As recently as yesterday, SAS presented a codeshare agreement with Garuda Indonesia that provides better access to destinations such as Jakarta and Bali.

The new agreement with Aerolíneas Argentinas instead strengthens SAS's presence in South America - a region where the company has no services of its own but where demand for connecting journeys via European hubs continues to grow.

Launch in 2026

EuroBonus members are also covered by the partnership and will be able to earn and use points on flights within the joint network.

The codeshare agreement is expected to come into force during the third quarter of 2026, subject to the necessary regulatory approvals being obtained.

For SAS, the agreement represents another step in the strategy of growing through partnerships rather than its own long-haul capacity in every market - while the company prepares a major expansion of its own long-haul fleet from Copenhagen in the coming years.
