Record month for Copenhagen Airport
Copenhagen Airport had its strongest May ever with 3.1 million passengers. That is an increase of 7 per cent compared with the same month last year.
Growth is driven primarily by European traffic. Norway was the largest market with 259,000 travellers, while Italy recorded the strongest increase. The number of passengers on routes between Copenhagen and the 12 Italian destinations rose by 18 per cent to 231,000.
- The desire to travel remains strong despite rising fuel prices. Several days in May were at the same level as the busiest days during last summer’s peak season, says Peter Krogsgaard, chief commercial officer at Copenhagen Airport.
Domestic traffic is also growing. During the first five months of the year, 590,000 passengers travelled on the airport’s six Danish domestic routes, an increase of 22 per cent compared with the same period last year.
The increase is partly explained by more Danes using Copenhagen as a hub for onward travel around the world. The share of transfer passengers on domestic routes has increased by more than 5 percentage points in a year.
- Today, four in ten domestic travellers are transfer passengers who continue onwards to one of the 330 destinations served from Copenhagen this summer, says Peter Krogsgaard.
