New manager at WorldHotels: Independent hotels strengthen their position

Increased demand for unique experiences benefits independent hotels.

According to Montez de Oca, the Nordic hotel market is undergoing a shift, where increased consolidation and growth among large chains are combined with a growing demand for unique hotel experiences.

- We see a clear division where standardised chain products are met with an increased demand for local and experience-based alternatives, she says.

The development, according to her, strengthens the position of independent hotels, which can compete with a clear identity, design, and personal service.

At the same time, the demands for global reach are increasing.

- To be competitive, access to distribution, digital visibility, and international demand is also required, says Montez de Oca.

She points to continued growth for so-called “soft brands”, where independent hotels are linked to global networks.

As part of the expansion, WorldHotels is opening the Willow hotel in Trelleborg on 1 June.

The hotels that will succeed in the future, according to Montez de Oca, are those that combine a local profile with international reach through partnerships.
