Asia lifted Finnair in May
Finnair had 1.09 million passengers in May, an increase of 7.4 per cent compared with the same month last year. Growth was strongest on the Asian routes, while traffic in Europe also developed positively.
The airline's passenger traffic, measured in RPK, increased by 6.2 per cent. At the same time, the load factor improved by 5.1 percentage points to 77.6 per cent.
Overall capacity remained at roughly the same level as a year earlier. Finnair increased its offering on European routes, including through new destinations, while capacity to North America declined following fewer departures to Seattle and Dallas.
Traffic to the Middle East has remained suspended since the end of February due to the deteriorating security situation in the region.
Finnair's revenue per available seat kilometre (RASK) rose by 17.7 per cent, which the company attributes to a higher load factor and improved ticket revenues.
Cargo operations also developed positively. The number of tonnes of cargo transported increased by 4.3 per cent, driven by growth in European and Asian traffic.
Punctuality also improved during the month. In total, 82.8 per cent of Finnair's flights arrived on time, compared with 80.6 per cent in May 2025.
